At The Green Store we try and make the packaging we use for dispatching your orders as eco friendly as possible.
The boxes we use are either ones that we receive goods in and are suitable to send orders out, or they are new cardboard boxes which can be used again or easily recycled.
The boxes are sealed using paper tape rather than PVC tape which also helps when it comes to recycling the boxes.
To protect the goods in the boxes we mainly use Renature Biodegradable void fill (peanuts). Although this may look like polystyrene it is in fact made of cornstarch and can either be placed in a compost bin or safely put in your normal refuse. ( Tip: An easy way to tell if void fill is cornstarch is to wet your finger & touch one of the peanuts. Cornstarch ones will stick to your finger but polystyrene ones don’t)
For fragile items such as the Bottle Clocks & glasses we have to use bubble wrap. The bubble wrap we use is made from oxo-biodegradable polymers which will degrade into water & a small amount of carbon dioxide and biomass.
For smaller items we use Jiffy bags, but not those lined with bubble wrap. We use the padded envelopes which are made from strong, sustainable, kraft paper outer with 100% recycled paper fibre cushioning and so are fully recyclable.
For some small soft items, such as the Onya bags, we use Eco Poly Jackets which are made of a degradable polythene, similar to the bubble wrap. For more information about how these degrade see the Eco Poly Jacket website.
The paper we use for the dispatch notes is made from 100% recycled paper as are all the labels used (address, return address & postage).
This policy has been in place since The Green Store started trading and we hope that you can see that we have done our best to reduce the impact of our packaging on the environment. If you have any suggestion how we can improve this please let us know at info@thegreenstoreonline.co.uk
