Left Overs!
When did you last hear these words "It's left overs for dinner"?
Years ago it would be unheard of to throw away food – every food scrap would be used up to make classics such a shepherds pie, bubble and squeak etc.
 Life appears to be going full circle and fortunately more of us are aware of food wastage problems and now its back to some traditional values of ‘Waste Not – Want Not’.
As consumers we have come to regard ‘nice’ food as fresh produce as we feel we are getting good quality, but in truth most of us actually throw a lot of this food away!
Obvious reasons for having such food wastage is over buying, but usually this can be compensated for with simple storage solutions or freezing food instead of binning it when near to its use by dates!
According to recent statistics as a nation we throw away a third of the items we buy equating to 6 million tonnes of food each year!
Many of us greener types are keen to keep food waste to a minimum, but carrot peelings and tea bags are never going to make it to the dinner table. At least by composting our scraps we can throw away with a clear conscience.
